Part-Time (0.5 FTE) Lead Oncology Research Pharmacist
St. Luke's Cancer Institute – Boise, Idaho
Schedule: 0.5 FTE (20 hours/week), Monday–Friday with occasional weekend call
Position Overview
St. Luke’s Cancer Institute is seeking a highly skilled Oncology Research Pharmacist (0.5 FTE) to support a rapidly expanding portfolio of oncology clinical trials, particularly industry-sponsored studies. This role will function as a specialty/lead pharmacist within the Oncology Research Pharmacy team, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient management of investigational therapies while upholding the highest standards of patient safety and regulatory oversight.
This position is critical to sustaining research growth, preventing operational bottlenecks, and ensuring continued excellence in investigational drug services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Research Responsibilities
- Deliver pharmaceutical care to oncology research patients.
- Conduct comprehensive protocol review for new clinical trials.
- Evaluate investigational drug handling, preparation, storage, and dispensing processes.
- Oversee investigational drug accountability and regulatory documentation.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USP <797>/<800>, GCP, IRB, and sponsor requirements.
- Serve as clinical and regulatory resource for oncology research staff.
- Function as online pharmacist as scheduled.
- Participate in occasional weekend call coverage.
Specialty/Lead Functions
- Serve as functional lead for Oncology Research Pharmacy services based on expertise and assignment.
- Design and implement operational processes specific to investigational drug services.
- Coordinate research pharmacy activities under departmental leadership.
- May serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge if Director is unavailable.
- Evaluate and mentor pharmacy staff within research services.
- Precept pharmacy students and residents in oncology research learning experiences.
- Mentor and train pharmacy staff in investigational services best practices.
- Collaborate across oncology, nursing, regulatory, and research teams to improve medication-use outcomes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy (PharmD preferred).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of pharmacist experience
- PGY1/PGY2 Residency or MBA may substitute for experience requirement
- Oncology and/or investigational drug services experience strongly preferred
Licensure & Certification
- Active Pharmacist license in the state of Idaho
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through:
- American Heart Association
- American Safety and Health Institute
- American Red Cross
- If applicable specialty certification exists, obtain Board Certification through the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties within 2 years (e.g., BCOP preferred)
