Manager, Pharmacy Oncology Infusion Services

Overview

St. Luke’s Cancer Institute in Boise, Idaho is seeking a dynamic and clinically strong Manager, Pharmacy Oncology Infusion Services to lead oncology pharmacy operations and clinical services. This leader is responsible for the safe, compliant, and effective preparation and distribution of medications while driving excellence in oncology pharmacy practice.

The Pharmacy Manager oversees approximately 20–25 direct reports, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and holds operational responsibility for facilities under 100 beds. This position plays a key leadership role in advancing medication-use outcomes, oncology clinical services, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of oncology pharmacy operations.
  • Ensure proper preparation, verification, and distribution of chemotherapy and supportive care medications.
  • Maintain safe and compliant sterile compounding practices (USP <797>, <800>).
  • Assure compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets effectively.
  • Optimize staffing deployment, workflow efficiency, and use of technology.

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 20–25 pharmacy professionals.
  • Select, develop, coach, and assess performance of staff.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, counseling, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
  • Serve as a clinical mentor to pharmacists in daily oncology patient care functions.

Clinical & Quality Excellence

  • Develop and implement quality assurance standards and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Lead medication safety and quality programs specific to oncology services.
  • Function as a pharmacist when needed, providing clinical and dispensing services.
  • Improve medication-use outcomes through clinical pharmacy services and innovation.
  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams to enhance oncology patient care.

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Assist in the development and administration of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate implementation of strategic goals, projects, and system-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with hospital and cancer institute leadership.
  • Lead within organizational structures to optimize pharmacy services.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree from an accredited pharmacy program (PharmD preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of pharmacy experience.
  • MBA or completion of a Pharmacy Residency may substitute for two (2) years of required experience.
  • Oncology pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure & Certification:

  • Valid Pharmacist License in the state of Idaho (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification through:
    • American Safety & Health Institute
    • American Heart Association
    • American Red Cross
