Overview

St. Luke’s Health System is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Pharmacy Business Specialist – 340B to join our growing pharmacy team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone with retail pharmacy or pharmacy technician experience who is eager to develop expertise in the dynamic and evolving 340B program space.

This role plays a key part in supporting 340B compliance, auditing processes, and operational optimization. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and excited to grow within pharmacy operations and healthcare compliance.

 

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Business Specialist performs professional-level work within the 340B program, applying foundational knowledge while continuing to build higher-level skills. This role supports auditing, data analysis, compliance validation, and financial optimization efforts related to 340B drug purchasing and utilization.

You will analyze prescription and purchasing data, validate patient encounter eligibility, monitor compliance software, and assist in preparing for internal and government audits. The position works under moderate guidance while solving a range of straightforward analytical and operational challenges.

Primary Responsibilities

340B Program Support

  • Collect, aggregate, and analyze data from EPIC and other pharmacy systems.
  • Generate reports and conduct research on drug utilization and purchasing for 340B-participating pharmacies and clinics.
  • Monitor 340B software settings and transactions for compliance and optimization.
  • Review prescription fill data in spreadsheets to validate:
    • Patient encounters
    • Drug eligibility
    • Prescription accuracy
    • Compliance with 340B requirements
  • Manage manual adjustments related to 340B eligibility changes.
  • Support billing-to-purchasing conversion factor adjustments.
  • Process credit/rebills with wholesalers and coordinate direct repayments with manufacturers when required.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate manual tracking systems.
  • Build and maintain spreadsheets or database queries for analysis.
  • Assist with internal and external audit preparation, including government audits.
  • Research potential compliance risks and escalate findings for discussion.
  • Participate in review of 340B rule changes, legislation updates, and audit requirements.

 

Auditing & Compliance

  • Conduct routine audits of retail pharmacy transactions.
  • Reconcile charges and purchases.
  • Maintain clean, organized documentation to support audit readiness.
  • Assist in risk identification and mitigation planning.

 

Product Verification (as assigned)

  • Perform final product verification on prescription drug orders that have previously undergone prospective clinical review by a pharmacist.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

Experience

  • 0 years required — entry-level candidates encouraged to apply.
  • Retail pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
  • Pharmacy technician experience (especially retail or buying/inventory) highly valued.
  • Experience auditing retail pharmacy activity is a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Strong Excel skills required (pivot tables, data filtering, analysis).
  • Experience working in EPIC preferred.
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and large datasets.
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy.
