Description & Requirements

The Sign Language Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for healthcare providers, patients, and their families.

- Facilitates understanding in communication by conducting medical and general interpretation for healthcare providers, patients and their families.
- Assesses patient's comprehension of informed consent.
- Assists in triage crisis interventions for hard of hearing/deaf patients and their family.
- Interprets with highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation modes.
- Suggests to management referrals of patients and families who could benefit from the assistance of additional patient resources.
- Demonstrates knowledge of interpretation skills and Code of Ethics for Interpreters in healthcare.
- Participates in floor rounds, and care conferences.
- Provides input in strategic planning for effective delivery of information to patients and families.
- Assists in the assessment of situations in a culturally different context.
- Understands and manages scheduling process by utilizing system tools.
- Provides interpretation services through Video when needed.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelors degree or experience in lieu of degree
- Experience: 2 years relevant experience
- Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Sign Language Interpreter in the state of practice
