What to Expect

The Technical Lead oversees and administers various tests, ensuring quality assurance within their respective service line(s). The role involves significant responsibilities in quality control, proficiency testing, College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection readiness, communication, training, and competency validation. The Technical Lead performs tasks and tests under limited supervision and acts as a mentor and/or trainer for all team members.

  • Prepare and review Quality Control Monitors monthly.
  • Evaluate CAP Survey Performance using CAP Proficiency Testing Guidelines.
  • Participate in investigations and prepare Proficiency Error Investigation Reports.
  • Ensure CAP inspection readiness by following annual/semi-annual service line tasks and participating in self- and onsite inspections.
  • Inform and escalate quality issues to Laboratory Leadership, Medical Director, and/or Laboratory Program Manager.
  • Participate in creating and reviewing procedures and policies within the service line.
  • Verify the accuracy and validity of test results, review quality control and analyzer performance weekly, and troubleshoot quality control issues.
  • Review calibrations performed within the service line and ensure maintenance procedures are completed and documented.
  • Test specimens in an accurate, organized, and prioritized manner following laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Ensure specimens are properly identified, collected, labeled, and stored.
  • Perform instrument maintenance according to the section procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment. - Instruct trainees in procedures and techniques, serve as preceptor/mentor, and provide real-time feedback to supervisors on trainee performance.
  • Assist in performing retraining as required and support documentation of acceptable performance.
  • Responsible for trainee and staff competency validation, observing testing procedures, and providing real-time feedback on policy/procedure deviations.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and quality control materials.
  • Monitor the service line for new lots of reagents and QC materials, ensuring that necessary testing and documentation are completed before use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: 4 years’ experience.
  • Certification: Must have one of the following:
    • Blood Banking (ASCP_BB)
    • Chemistry (ASCP_C)
    • Cytogenetics (CYGT)
    • Cytotechnologist (ASCP_CT)
    • Hematology (ASCP_H)
    • Histotechnologist (ASCP_HTL)
    • Microbiology (ASCP_M)
    • Molecular Biology (ASCP_MB)
    • Medical Lab Scientist (ASCP_MLS)
    • Medical Technologist (ASCP_MT or AMT_MT)
    • Medical Lab Technician (ASCP-MLT).
