Position Overview:

St. Luke’s is actively exploring and expanding internal AI development to improve how we support clinicians, staff, and patients. As part of this effort, the AI Development Collaborative, established in December 2025, partners closely with internal business and clinical stakeholders to design, pilot, and operationalize responsible AI solutions across the organization.

This internship sits within the AI Center of Excellence and the Emerging Technologies Lab, where innovation is grounded in real‑world use cases, strong governance, and measurable impact. The AI Engineer for Copilot Intern will contribute to hands‑on development of Copilot agents and automation solutions, working alongside solution architects and strategy leaders. The role offers exposure to the full lifecycle of internal AI solutions, from idea intake and prototyping to piloting, performance monitoring, and iteration, while collaborating with both technical and non‑technical partners.

This is an opportunity to learn how AI is responsibly developed and deployed in a large healthcare system, while helping turn emerging technologies into practical tools that support everyday work.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the end-to-end process of AI solution delivery
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers
  • Develop and deploy Copilot agents for real-world use cases
  • Balance routine tasks with innovative, challenging assignments

Initiatives:

  • Support the creation of Copilot agents and related processes
  • Participate in customer intake and requirements gathering
  • Work closely with the AI Solution Architect and Tech Strategy Manager
  • Maintain a reflective journal to track growth and learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate college or university program with a focus on Computer Science, or a related technical field, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Familiarity with AI tools like chatbots or Copilot, including writing prompts, understanding how they work, and improving responses based on feedback.

Soft Skills

  • Critical thinking, problem solving and ethical mindset
  • Self-driven, passion for learning, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organization, persistence, teamwork, flexibility, creativity, and outside-the-box thinking
