Description & Requirements

The Supervisor Laboratory Operations is responsible for directing, coordinating, and assisting in the activities of specimen preparation and testing services in clinical laboratories for the use in treatment, monitoring, and diagnosis of diseases. Ensures laboratory services meet the needs of patients, and services are performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices.



  • Ensures team member competencies with specimen testing protocols, and the accuracy and organization of test results in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements and established departmental procedures.
  • Ensures team member competencies in specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and health conditions.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate staff coverage, and providing leadership, guidance, counseling and continuing education to staff. Serves as the point of escalation for quality control or maintenance concerns, where applicable may also be the point of escalation for patient concerns or complaints.
  • Participates in creation and review of procedures and policies as appropriate for assigned areas and duties.
  • Ensures overall department compliance with state, local and appropriate regulatory agency requirements.
  • Provides all areas with administrative and technical support, including inventory management and the training of new team members and students on operational procedures. Serves as a resource for less experienced staff.
  • Manages staff performance, conducts performance appraisals, and leads staff development.
  • Contributes to the budget for capital purchases and supply projections.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
  • Consults with medical staff and other healthcare providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • - Education: Bachelor's of Science degree.
    - Experience: 5 years  experience.
    - Licenses/Certifications: Must have one of the following:
    AMT_MT Medical Technologist
    ASCP_BB Blood Banking Technologist
    ASCP_C Chemistry Technologist
    ASCP_CT Cytotechnologist
    ASCP_H Hematology Technologist
    ASCP_HTL Histotechnologist
    ASCP_M Microbiology Technologist
    ASCP_MLS Medical Lab Scientist
    ASCP_MT Medical Technologist
    CYGT Cytogenetics Technologist
